Now that Football season is coming to a close, I'm done arguing about who is better and why. It's always fun to do though and every year it's one of my favorite things to do. But as always, by the end of the year, you realize that the rankings really don't mean much. Especially this year...it's obvious almost anyone can win at any time. However, I'd just like to leave this subject with one more thing...a few stats. Real Mathematical stats (i use the term mathematical uneasily). These stats are created using the Grave-Reese College Football Rankings produced by Phd professors-Not ESPN analysts. Soooo, this is not an argument for any particular point, it's just a few stats that you might find interesting:
Rankings using stricktly statistical information-
Strength of Schedule:
Alabama Crimson Tide: 21st
BYU Cougars: 90th
10 Teams in the SEC were ranked on this list before the 1st team from the Mountain West was ranked. (#37 UNLV)
Records can suddenly seem unimportant when you look at info like this. Anyways, like I said, this is not an argument, just a statistical fact, so who cares anyways right? That's all. PS: Sarah and Ryan, write something new on your blog....we are bored!! :)
PPS: Just in case anyone cares (which no one really does), The amazing, talented, brilliant, UNDEFEATED Hawaii warriors (or Rainbows as they apparently have been known as) had the worst strength of schedule rating on the list, coming in at a pathetic 120th. Understand why they aren't ranked any higher? They are not being underestimated, trust that.

I hate Stats class

SO, that is interesting, and I think it is good to consider those kind of things, except for the question of how do they even detrmine strength of schedule? Like you said, anyone can beat anybody at anytime, so then really, wouldn't this so called strength of schedule be pretty meaningless? If Hawaii is 120, then in my head, all saeason they would only play team numbers 108-119 or whatever...maybe I just don't get it, but really, what do they base srength of schedule off of, other than team history, and, what?? how big their stadiums are and how many championship rings they have? The past doesn't control how good the teams are that year, right? Influence it, sure...but strength of schedule, schmangth of schedule. Forget the BCS...BRING ON THE TOURNAMENT!!
blah blah blah.. I suck at stats, hated stats class and think these stats prove nothing. I understand stats can be helpful but in strength of schedule it is still biased. UNLV is 37 on this list and is the worst team in the conf. But they get that ranking because they played some teams that were ranked high early in the season and now suck also. Josh good job posting things that I like to comment about.
Ryan
all i hear is blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah. i mean.. um.. college football is sooo interesting. the end.
See these kinds of posts do get good responses. They have all these things that go into these stats. it's a long list. I agree that stats don't mean a whole lot, but they do mean something. Some teams are better than others. Some are really better. If team A plays team awesome, and team B plays team terrible, team A will be ranked higher. Strength of schedule DOES matter. Tournament would be nice but it will never happen. Bowl games bring in money. And Hawaii being 120 means they play teams that are not very good.(ie: Utah State) That is all.
Also, not that this is entirely true at all (b/c UNLV does suck), but maybe they are last b/c they have the hardest schedule....eh?...eh?... Probably not true, but I'm just saying...
An analogy if you will...
If you race me in Mario Kart, I might lose. If you race me best of 10, I will garantee 9 out of 10. (probably 10 out of 10, but things always can happen). Just because a team loses, doesn't mean they aren't better still. i don't know what this applys to at all, but i liked the mario kart part. You figure out the rest
I don't see why they don't make the bowl games into parts of the tournament and double their money! Seriously, do you not think tournament would bring in big bucks??
If they somehow incorporated the bowl games into a tournament, then yes, it could possibly make more money. But when You're the big guys making all the money, it's hard to change things just because the fans want you to you know?
